Axxerion still exists, but not under that name. It was acquired by Spacewell in 2019, and in 2022 the product line was rebranded: the facilities-management product merged with Spacewell's Cobundu IoT platform to become Spacewell Workplace, while the real-estate side became a separate product called Spacewell Real Estate. Spacewell is part of the publicly listed Nemetschek Group.
If you're still saying “Axxerion,” you're in good company — plenty of teams do.
This comes up constantly: someone goes looking for Axxerion documentation, or a renewal notice arrives under a name nobody recognizes, or a new hire can't find the vendor anywhere. So here's a plain account of what happened, what the names mean now, and — the part that's actually useful — why the reorganization matters more than the rename.
The timeline
- August 2018 — Spacewell's solutions are brought under the broader footprint of the Nemetschek Group, a listed company in the architecture, engineering, construction and operations software space.
- January 2019 — Spacewell acquires Axxerion, the Dutch SaaS provider behind the workflow-based facilities management product.
- 2022 — the rebrand. From March 2022, Axxerion's facilities management software and Spacewell's Cobundu IoT platform for smart buildings are merged into a single SaaS platform with a unified interface, called Spacewell Workplace. Separately, the Axxerion real-estate line is rebranded Spacewell Real Estate.
So the name you're looking for disappeared gradually — three years between acquisition and rebrand — which is part of why the old name stuck around in everyday use for so long afterwards.
What the two names mean now
Spacewell Workplace
This is Axxerion's facilities management engine combined with Cobundu's IoT capability. The stated intent of the merge was more automation across facilities management and employee experience — sensors, smart-building data, and workplace services alongside the workflow and maintenance functionality Axxerion was known for.
Spacewell Real Estate
The Axxerion real-estate baseline became its own product, aimed at commercial real estate managers in specific geographies — and, importantly, positioned as independent from Spacewell Workplace rather than a module of it.
The split matters more than the rename
A rename is an inconvenience. A product split is a strategic signal, and this is the part worth paying attention to if you're a property or facilities team wondering why things feel different.
What used to be one product with one roadmap became two products with separate ones. The Workplace side moved toward smart buildings, IoT, and employee experience — a genuinely significant market, and a substantial engineering investment. The real-estate side became its own line for a specific audience in specific geographies.
Neither of those is a criticism. But if you're running maintenance and leases across a portfolio of branches, offices, or apartment communities, it's reasonable to ask which of those two products you're actually on, and whether the direction it's heading is the direction you need. Sensors in a corporate headquarters and lease renewal notices across two hundred branch locations are different problems.
If you don't know which line your contract sits on, it's worth finding out before your next renewal — the answer determines which roadmap your requests are competing for attention on. Your account manager can tell you, and it's a reasonable question to ask.
What it means for you practically
Some honest reassurance first: a rebrand is not a shutdown. Nemetschek is a listed company, Spacewell is an established vendor, and nothing about the 2022 reorganization means your system is going away. If it works for you, none of this is a reason to move.
Things that are worth doing regardless:
- Update your internal documentation. Runbooks and onboarding notes that say “Axxerion” will confuse anyone who joins now and tries to search for it.
- Know which product you're on — Workplace or Real Estate — so support requests and roadmap questions go to the right place.
- Export your data periodically. Not because anything is wrong, but because it's good practice at any vendor and it's much less stressful done calmly than during a migration. We wrote a practical guide to exporting that's useful whether you ever switch or not.
Does the rebrand mean you should switch?
On its own, no. “They changed the name” is a bad reason to run a replacement project, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something.
The reasons that actually justify looking are the ordinary ones:
- Getting a clear monthly picture out of the system takes manual work every month
- The interface slows your team down, or people avoid it and work around it
- You need capability the product doesn't cover, or that now sits in the other product line
- You're paying for breadth you don't use
- Access control doesn't match how your teams are actually organized
If none of those are true, stay. If several are, the rebrand isn't the reason to look — it's just the moment that prompted you to.
